5/12/2023 0 Comments Dogsbody by Diana Wynne JonesIn punishment and to expiate his crime, Sirius is sent to fetch the lost zoi from the planet it fell to by being incarnated on Earth as a dog. It was called Dogsbody.ĭogsbody (1975) tells the story of Sirius, a star (or a "Luminary," the forces or demi-gods that manages a star's orbit and sphere) who is accused by his own beautiful Companion of murdering another star with a powerful device called a zoi. It still lives in the back of my mind as a personal touchstone for wonder and discovery and the love of reading. But in the arbitrary way of childhood, one of her more minor books opened a door for me at just the right moment. I haven't read all of her most famous series, the Chrestomanci books, and only read Howl's Moving Castle after I saw Miyazaki's movie. I have to admit, I'm not Jones' number one fan. I'd like to share a memory in memory of sf author Diana Wynne Jones, who passed away last night at the age of 76.
